Hi, I’m Slade!

I spent twenty years doing everything except the thing I actually wanted to do. I worked on political campaigns, was a research scientist, a bartender, a cook, a restaurant manager, and at one point, someone paid me to know things about beer. At 41, I left a restaurant consulting job and went back to school for writing, where I realized that all of those jobs prepared me to write from different perspectives and different audiences - from grants and policy proposals for scientists and nonprofits to brand copy for restaurants. With newfound purpose, I finally sat down to write a novel that had been living in my head. It is an epic fantasy about four strangers, an impulsive gnome, a one-armed soldier, a beleaguered battlefield medic, and a distrustful elf just looking to survive, being pulled toward each other and the end of the world.

I also continue to freelance in the world of grant writing, proposal writing, editing, news articles, and public interest stories.
